Thing 2

Blogging

I'd always thought blogs were rambling weirdos or for fun. I never really got into it or saw the appeal. I questioned the worth. I thought that there was little to nothing left to learn on the internet for a twenty-something dude, a digital native. So I wasn't very interested in setting up a blog.

Blogging for Fun

I guess that isn't a hundred percent true. I enjoy my friend's blog (though I haven't talked to ole Jason in a while). Blackout Korea cracks me up big time and I understand why; like the video for the assignment, it is for a specialized audience that reads, comments, and shares with each other. I'm coming to appreciate that.

Blog-gret

When I lived overseas and was doing my traveling, I really regret not blogging. I was worried it would be a too personal experience and slightly whinny. It wouldn't have to be.

Future?

This assignment will be good blog practice. I'm already thinking though that an online community sharing resources for teaching, specifically using technology for ESL learning, would be quite a boon. I already have a poster project, which could be a start.

Maybe I will have to start writing a tech ESL blog...

Thing 1

7.5 Habits of Life Long Learning

“Everybody who is incapable of learning has taken to teaching.” Oscar Wilde
7.5 Habits of Life Long Learning was an interesting video. I enjoyed how it broke down the steps and gave some different answers from a variety of people. I would have liked to see more concrete examples of how to find more uses of technology but the goal of the video is problem-solution customization; the web is what you make of it.

Easiest Habit: Create Your Own Learning Toolbox

Finding tools to make learning easier and more engaging is my form of cheap thrills. Collecting and implementing new tools makes my job worth going. When students and I have the tools at our hands, creativity and learning come together harmoniously. My tool box is delicious. I can store everything I find on the internet, organize it, and publish it for others to see. Here's my delicious bookmarks. This is my easiest habit because it is the one I am most motivated to do.

Hardiest Habit: Begin with a Goal in Mind

I tend to not have a major goal in mind when it comes to learning. I have general goals such as get a degree and run away. I have day to day objectives that I try to expand and delve into for understanding. But a comprehensive goal for my learning is vague at best. I am just dealing with personal and student learning needs on a day to day basis.

This being said, I pledge to...
